Jesse Hector in the Hackney
Just picked up my copy of the Gazette in work and theres an article on a shaven headed Jesse Hector (age 60) in there...hes a cleaner at the Hackney Empire... apparently hes considering making a comeback (but only for something substantial)after a surge of interest in his music on the internet.... following on from a documentary on him late last year ( Jesse Hector - A Message to the World)...on about his first band Crushed Bulter from the late 60s, who didnt sell out like the Who - and made pop records

Re: Jesse Hector in the Hackney
Mad one. A substantial amount?? It's a shame if he doesn't have a go out of greed. I always thought he was still occasionally gigging, but to more of a rockin' audience. And Crushed Butler is an odd choice, The Clique was his first band and The Gorillas were more famous weren't they? Or infamous...
Tom, has the documentary already been aired or is due ter be shown? And is it just going ter be shown down there?? It'd be good ter watch I reckon.

Re: Jesse Hector in the Hackney
Mark
He doesnt mention the Clique but Crushed Butler...about how revolution was on everyones lips but they were the only ones talking about it (err...Street Fighting Man??? errr what about doing it ), that the Who started the freedom movement of rock n roll (whats that when its at home?)but sold out along the way to make pop songs (Wont get Fooled again?) but they never sold out, not for one minute... quite a bit about the Hammersmith Gorillas in it..says he still socilaises with many of his old showbiz friends - Shane McGowan, Paul Weller -, also about how they and Crushed Butler paved the way for Punk...
As for the documentary, it says it aired at Westbourne Studios in November last year and is being aired at music festivals the world over....

Re: Jesse Hector in the Hackney
This Jesse Hector name is familiar - I think a couple of friends of mine used to see him quite a bit a few years ago - also if I'm not mistaken were fairly good friends with him ie had him visiting their house quite a bit?? These were what I call my '60s' friends and are the reason I got very into the 60s scene in the very late 80s early 90s.
Cant tell you anything about him but just seemed familiar reading all this.

Re: Jesse Hector in the Hackney
Jesse played in the 60's Clique, appearing on their classic single, We Didn't Kiss, Didn't Love But Now We Do Do (which he would perform on a couple of occasions with the other Clique from the late 80's/early 90's. Inbetween was Crushed Butler and the (Hammersmith) Gorillas who were highly regarded by the punk movers and shakers of the time.
I regulary bump into Jesse around the record shops around Soho or in Camden in his favourite pub. Interesting guy with some great tales to tell and still a Small Faces devotee.

That 'other' Clique had Paul Newman in it didn't it? My mate went out with him in the late 80s.... it was her sister and her fella who I was referring to who knew this Jesse!
