Good review I think as well.

Yes, Attila was John Opposition... a very nice bloke and a good friend mine in 1978-79. He went back to England, and I met him again at a mod gig at the 100 club when I lived in London in 1982 - he was then in his John Opposition phase- the most pro-mod journalist at the time. We met again the day after for a couple of drinks and had very interesting discussions. Haven't seen him since.

Yes, maybe it was an 007 gig (with F.A.B. ?), Anthony Meynell re-introduced him to me and you're right about the political views - first met him through RAR

I saw quite a few 007 gigs back then, I remember one in the Mildmay Tavern, but that was earlier ... and one in Crawley plus Ilford Palais etc...

Johnny Oppo was certainly one of the few pro mod journos left.

He reviewed a number of mod gigs for Sounds, Small World getting a particularly good write up.

There were plans for him to do a regular feature, he asked for demos and fanzines to be sent in, I think Sounds were amazed we were still around after the kicking mod got 3 years previous. Never happened though.

Johnny's articles prompted Andy Day's (?) letter to Sounds which is probably one of the best letters that mag ever printed. If I can find it I'll scan it and post it up.

We did 2 gigs in Crawley I think. One was in a school hall when a load of skins turned up and people were breaking up chairs for weapons. Turned out the skins were all mates of the mods there so it was a good gig. I think that was with F.A.B. Steve Roadrunner where are you now? Any info anyone? It was at this gig that somebody was sitting outside the hall just revving their Vespa when somebody walked past and just flicked it into gear for a laugh. The rider didn't laugh as he went through the reception window.

Re: Eddy Steady Go !

Funny you should say that, I just came across this and was reading the replies to see if anyone knew what the hell had happened to him. All I can add is that yes, he was managed by Jerry Floyd as ourselves and the Teenbeats were and he came from Bury or Burnley or somewhere else up North beginning with a B. He always used to be a compere at our gigs through 1979 and 1980 and then suddenly dissapeared. He used to carry around one of those little Adidas type bags. I don't remember any of his stuff apart from the fact that it was absolutely hilarious and he never took anything seriously. The times I saw him come off stage soaked in lager were numerous.

As for Attilla the Stockbrocker, he lived in Brighton at some point during the 80's and I did see him again many years ago probably around 1988/89. He was a top bloke too, not just pro-Mod but a great fan of any thing that was happening as I remember. Not one of those critics who comment on things they don't like. If he didn't like it, he didn't write about it. Shame there weren't more like him and Bushell.
