Re: Punch Ups And Riots 1977-1986
That's my point Alex. In the context of talking about a particular rally, or gig or what happened around a particular club night people went to that's fine. I'm not saying ignore the violence, because truth is that in the 70's and 80's it was an everyday occurence practically. What I do have a problem with is this thread were people are being asked specifically to recount tales of fighting and riots..... someone coming to this thread and not knowing the wider scene will get completely the wrong idea.
And the truth is the violence, whether it was a good laugh at the time or not, wasn't and isn't a vital or important part of the scene.
Nuyorica is very welcome here, and says he loves the scenes, but he has an unhealthy interest it seems in the violence side. There just needs to be a balance.... that's not just my views as moderator, but personally as well.
--- I love things, I do my best, I eat, sleep and laugh and cry just like the rest, what becomes of me is meant to be, so I'll just groove along quite naturally....

Re: Punch Ups And Riots 1977-1986
See i don't think there is nothing wrong with my topic, it's just with Bank Holiday upon us it just seemed like the right topic to do.
And if you want my feelings on violence well sadly i think we live in a more violent Britain now and see all these awful little chavers screwing alot of nice not just places, and the only thing which can make these country alot safer is National Service.

should stir a few memories good or bad for you sidewinder, The aforesaid Last Resort shop. Click on image to make it bigger.

Makes me laugh, I am chuckling loads. All those NF Boneheads buying their gear and Swastika crap from the Last Resort. The shop was owned by a little Jewish fella. Talk about having the last laugh and doing it all the way to the bank!
Paul.
"On It Cos, We're In It"
U sure on that one Paul.......the shop was owned by Micky French and his missus Margaret....I was never a regular but I dont think he was a little Jewish bloke.....A big Millwall fan by all accounts ....maybe Oxo will know more on this !!
I bought quite a bit of stuff from them but I cant ever remember seeing Swastikas and all that .........sure patriotic stuff, but never Nazi stuff !!
Hello Kev, the older Bethnal Green, Walthamstow, and Leyton Rudies I hung out with were always talking about the place and stated that fact about the shop owner many times. The fella was pointed out and he could well have been Jewish? Was not a place I fancied visiting to clarify things,if you know what I mean. That was the info in 1980/81 that went with that place when ever you was going to venture down that way, and one to watch out for, avoiding trouble.

I've never thought violence was sexy that's for sure.
I was amazed when the media said that the Iraq dossier was 'sexed up' before the country was invaded. What the fcuk does that mean?!
On the plus side, I do think violins are sexy.
Hell Gary, I was being sarky when I mentioned the word Sexy. Trying to be a bit tongue in cheek mate and taking the mick that some seem to look at it in that way. Some unfortunately do tend to look at violence pretty much on par with sex.
I hated all the violence but it was there!

Re: Punch Ups And Riots 1977-1986
Its a shame really now that the younger ones dont have a shop or place really of recognition as far as I can see ........Carnaby street, say what you like, but it was a good place that drew the scene together "scooterists/mods" .....the same for The Last Resort and Skins
I spose its Pubs as you get older but they were a good place to go and just hang about when you was younger !!

Sarcasm is something I understand all too well cos it's my favourite form of wit.
I understood you Paul. Like you say, maybe some people don't get it.
Nuyorica has a fascination with violence but I doubt if he'd have been so interested if he'd been on the receiving end of it. I loved going to the resorts on Bank Holidays but I used to pray that there wouldn't be trouble cos it wasn't what I was there to see.
On a lighter note, sex IS a bit like fighting. Well it is the way I do it.

Re: Punch Ups And Riots 1977-1986
I used to use the Last resort quite a bit when I went through a sort of suedehead phase in 1980. I worked for NatWest in Bishopsgate, and the Lane was only a 10 minute walk. They were good for pairs of tonic strides an stuff, and loads of diferent Ben shermans.
I can't actually remember the people in there to be honest, but they were always helpful.
