Punch Ups And Riots 1977-1986

Anyone give me stories of any famous run in's starting from the birth of Punk 1976/77 to the mass riot at the national scooter rally of 1986.Just trying to get a recollection of when The Youth Cults where at there strongest before the Dance Scene and Gay Skinheads become the norm.

Hello Nuyorica, There was that masssive riot at the Isle Of White on a National Rally in 1985? Different Clubs fighting each other, Pathetic! Think the Rally there, like Southend in 79, groups of Scooter Riders etc were band from the Island for a couple of years, if I remember rightly.

Later you had Scooter boys changing their stance, calling themselves Scooterists and having it with the Mods in late 84,early 85 and 86.

There was also two CS Gas incidents both in Clacton. 1984 was the Tottenham Supporters against Mods. The following year ex-Mods (Casuals)from Essex (Rumour had it they were from Hornchurch)did the same thing at Clacton at the Westcliffe.

On a personal tip, Remember being chased by about 30 Boneheads, that were out Mod Bashing in Brick Lane and Cheshire Street. Just my luck, If I had known that the NF was having a Rally that weekend (100s of Boneheads outside their shop, The Last Resort in Petticoat Lane), I would have gone to Blackmans another time for my Frank Wrights. The Boneheads were just attacking everyone so it seemed, especially kids in Parkas. I did not get touched luckily, just a bit of jogging about here and there to keep out of it. Maybe they overlooked me because I was a Rudy back then in 1980 dressed in my, Black Fred Perry, Navy Blue Crombie and razor parting, Ice Blue Sta-press, white socks and black Brogues.

There are photos in a late 70s Skinhead Book showing pictures of this Mod Bashing. The time was late 79, early 1980. I would say that was the strongest period for the Bonehead.

By 1984 you had Stylists/Purists fighting Revival/Jam Mods. Just never got that, It always saddened me.

Paul

There was also at Clacton in 84 that wretched Campsite that Johnson had arranged the Mod Campers to stay on. No Stewards or Security back then and the Casuals were having a field day (Pun)driving a nicked motor at Tents in the evening time. Lucky that no one got killed. Also there was an airfield next to the campsite and two Planes were smashed to bits. I remember seeing about 20 Mods all jumping up and down on the wing of this plane and Johnson was going into Cub Scout Leader mode, telling everyone off. The Plane eventually broke in two and one of the wings was marched off and used on the camp fires.Watching all of this going on, I was glad I had a B&b and relieved that the Face magazine didn't pick up on this for their Mod Special feature.

I remember Clacton 84 like it was yesterday...maybe because I pulled one of the backing singers of the AllJacks or maybe because I crashed my immaculate new Lambretta, or maybe Chad, or maybe the Westcliffe.

So just 10 years of violence we're looking for?
Why?

Yeah but it's the same every time...do we really need to regurgitate all those old battles again? the same person has consistently asked for info on violence over the last 12 months.

Why? are they writing a book, have no experience of the matter and are relying on old memories? Maybe if we knew why, then we could relate to the thread more?

Or is it only me that's getting bored about all the old stuff. I'm probably one of the worst!

I personally don't mind if someone mentions a specific bank holiday or event.Such as "Do you remember the time that someone set fire to Mark Johnsons nightie" but to ask for 10 years of violent memories emoticon
