No there was a lot of animosity between the Northern clubs and the London ones.
The above incident was only diffused when I opened my gob and a lad called Scots Jimmy heard my accent.
Personally if I heard "Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner" coming out of any pub, I didn't go in. I looked for the nearest selling Tetleys and the sounds Of Ilkley Moor.

I've never understood this at all.
Scarborough 86 Phoenix mod-run was like that too. A London mod walked up to my mate and hit him because he said he was from Leeds (in the club) to see what would happen. I told all the lads to forget it, dance, get pissed and pull a bird - as that was far more mod than fighting other mods

Hanging round in packs to pick off lone Northerners? Good enough on 'em - any Londoner ever been up north? Lucky to get out the pub without a glass in your 'ead esp Newcastle/Hartlepool way. Reckon they probably had better/bigger things to do than hanging round north circular. Mod on fire? Didn't it go that he was wearing an asbestos suit anyway and he offered to sit in fire for the money - think he actually did get the pound notes, but funny how things get told through the years all good stories though eh?

Glasses? You were lucky!
When 007 played in Liverpool in 81 (supporting the Hearts) we all went up in a coach. As we pulled into the city centre we had to slow down by some waste ground. These youngsters came out of nowhere with handfuls of stones and let rip. Welcome to the 'pool!
The Toxteth riots were a couple of weeks later and we got the blame for that as well in a number of fanzines.

YER we remember them there was alot of em and they looked abit ruff and the only time I can remember having a run in with them was at the Island Hotel a Tony Class do 81/82 not shure what year
