Re: Mechanical help thread!

I want to take the origional 6volt 150 engine out of my vespa and give it a rest, i'v put about 800miles up on it since re-build, and it ran fairly well
I have a PX125 lump with a Pinasco 180 kit on, T5 quadrant to carry a classic look curved kick start.... grand.
Problem is with the electrics. she still has her origional loom (1964 wire technology) i know i had a chance to replace it before the bike was assembled but it was rushed to get it out on the road.
Anyway, is there a loom out there which allows you to interchange engines without much hassle ?
The bike also has a battery compartment in the side-pannel toolbox, should i incorporate a battery also, if i wanted to mount extra legshield lights in the future?
I see Allstyles scooters have several different looms available.....very confusing

apologies to gp tim, just checked my workshop manual re brake light switch, several indian gp's were fitted with front brake switches!my indian gp does not,and no problem passing mot.to get onto your problem,it would appear that the rear brake light is connected to a switch located under the footboards, activated when you step on the brake, its also wired in tandem with the front switch,my advice would be to check out the switch to rear brake pedal, possibly it has a loose connection or maybe got dirt on terminals due to its position so near to the ground, hope this some help to you, cheers,ps try to get a copy of sticky's manual, great help.

Re: Mechanical help thread!

Can anyone help? Im running in a SIL GP200 at the moment. Took it out for a 20mile ride yesterday and in the last 5 miles it kept cutting out like it was running out of fuel (it has a full tank)
Ive also lost front and rear lights, rear brake light works on foot break. Ive checked connections but couldnt see anything amiss. Do they have fuses?
Any help appreciated!

Re: Mechanical help thread!

in my humble opinion,on indian scoots, also italian gp`s the headlamp bulb holder/wiring center are a very bad design,i changed mine 4 times in last two years, you cant get a quality one for love or money,if all the connections on there seem sound then it suggests it is not earthing correctly, this is where a cable is attached to the frame in 3 or 4 places also around the flywheel cover, what you need to do is disconnecct this cable, usually green i believe, clean it up with emery cloth also where it was bolted to the scoot,it should sort, you might also want to check you are getting a good spark, might need a new ht lead,i cant recomend sticky`s workshop manual enough,it really is the best 20 quid i ever spent on a scooters

Re: Mechanical help thread!

I went to use my GP200 yesterday but couldnt start it. I took off the side panel and noticed the HT lead had come out of the spark plug cap. I thought the easiest thing would be to buy a new one, but all the sites seem to sell the cable and plug seperatly. So my question to you good people is how does the cap connect to the lead (couldnt find anything about it in the Stickys manual). The cap has a "prong" going up the middle of it and the cable looks like it was just pushed in, as that correct?

what you want to do is twist the cap onto the lead as if you were opening a bottle of wine, about 5 or 6 full twists should do it,if it keeps spinning trim back the cable about half an inch and try again

Thanks P lax, worked a treat. I wonder wether its been working loose for a while, as it hasnt been running that great. Reconnected it last night and it fired up on the first kick. Im going to spend this evening checking for any other loose fittings etc.
