Supporting 'OUR' scene!

I don't know what has happened to the thread that Simpa put up a week or so ago about maybe having a 'do' up North next year but if I'm correct the response was a little disappointing. emoticon
It's been mentioned a number of times on this forum over the past year or so about the fact that most things seem to happen at the 'other end of the UK'. And the response is quite simply that there is deffinately more happening in our capital - granted! It's also mentioned that there are quite a few clubs and events 'up north' too, like Leeds & Manchester for instance.
There is deffinately something around any area if you wish to go to it and it is good that many of us make the time and effort to support these, but the point I am going to raise is that no-one (no sorry - very few)seem to be interested in coming from South to North yet there are many who would support an event in the other direction! emoticon
It's not a case of go to events near you, its a case of supporting 'our scene' as ONE!
Many of us northerners love to come down and support the events in the south of the country yet I'm disappointed that so few are ready to do the same when an event is trying to be put on elsewhere.
There is a stronger element in the south so when it comes to voting it's quite obvious how its going to end up isn't it?
Everybody has the same excuses - money, travel, time, etc, etc but I'm very disappointed when suggestions are made about a possible event 'up north' and very few are interested - selfishness springs to mind straight away!
I'm not interested in excuses or explanations as to why people won't support events in other parts of the country I just wanted to get something off my chest coz it's P****d me off! emoticon

well said, ive already stated that j60 will support this event and come and play for nothing, and not just for a do in scarborough, we will come and play at any events you want to put on, be it up north or dahn sarff. As i said before you cant just guage it on forum members response, i bet if you put it to the masses they would jump at the chance.

JL, mate,
I totally appreciate what you're saying, and I'm sure you're thinking of me, amongst others; but think of this: suppose you were putting on a regular night in London and some people (from London) didn't even bother supporting that? It's not a great feeling, believe me, but I've learnt that you shouldn't expect anyone to show support just because you're doing something. Those are the breaks. All you can do is let people know that the event is on and hope (or pray) that some of them come along. I support as many nights as I can in London, and have attended certain clubs again and again even though Jane and I just doubled the numbers by arriving.

Sadly, we're all wrapped up in our own worlds, and people don't always think 'Oh, he could do with some support'. I suggest Simpa concentrates on targeting The North, rather than depending on Southerners to attend.

Re: Supporting 'OUR' scene!

It is a sad fact that people in London do tend to have most things on their doorstep and don't really understand the concept of travelling any distance to go to a club or gig.

Being only 35 miles from London it is relatively easy for me to go to events there and you will always get people from the Home Counties etc making the effort. The same doesn't work though when events are put on in Reading/Maidenhead/Oxford/Swindon etc. Although some Londoners do come to these events, they are few and far between.

I have no problem with travelling anywhere, North or South, to events. A few years ago I drove to Nottingham to see the Chords and then drove home after the gig. Let's try to encourage more people to do the same.

Accommodation is much cheaper outside of London so it is good economics for them to come to us rather than us to them. emoticon

A Mod Alldayer or Weekender in the North?
Yes please! emoticon

Chris.

Your totally missing my point Bop.
You have said that you attend regular nights/clubs/events in London and I'm not talking about regular nights/do's at all.
I wouldn't expect people to travel on a regular basis to someting that was on-going.
I'm talking about a one off event or a meet-up. These don't happen every week (or month for that matter), probably once a year or twice if your lucky and it's the individuals choice whether to attend something of this nature.
But I stick to what I have already said. If I wer Simpa I'd have expected better support and it disappoints me that it hasn't been forthcoming.
I take it from your post that we should only ask northerners to attend northern events then?

No, not only Northerners, of course.
My point was a simple comparison, which is still relevant. Whatever you put on, wherever it is, or how regular it is, you can't expect people to automatically be enthusiastic. That's all.

JL
what can we expect from the southerners?
They have no need to travel as WE all have said MOST do's are in the south so if they wanna support the scene they can stay in their own backyards.
What we need to do is get a regular SCENE of our own going in the north with a few diehards out there promoting it.
Count me in when the revolution happens.
