I'm new at this
Ok, so basically I'm new at all this, I'm 21 and only finally just seeing Quadrophenia (IT'S AMAZING). I've always into all types of music and heard a few of the songs played in the film and again with the fashion i've always like this style but i basically want to know more about what music is truly classed as 'mod' as i haven't really found clear answers on the internet. What are the the true genre's of 'mod' does ska come into it?
So yeah i'd like to try and be more of a hardcore mod as i love every aspect of it, but like i said i'm not 100% where the line is when it comes to all the music.
I also truly love the scooters, they look amazing, i'd love to own one. What would you consider the best ones? I've looked at a few Vespa GS 150's, what are the best looking Lambretta's?
Would appreciate any help/comments.
Cheers.

Re: I'm new at this
Welcome aboard.
You're not going to get all the answers you seek through a single thread but here are a couple of recommendations for your research.
Mods - Richard Barnes
Mod a very British Phenonmena - Terry Rawlings
The FAQ section on Modculture might be a good source too.
Really though your best bet is to meet up with some mods in your local area. There might be some on here if you post your location (maybe a post in the introductions thread) or you could join one of the mod groups on facebook which get a lot more traffic than this site does these days.
All the best with your research, you're lucky in that there is so much information available online now but none of it compares to actually getting yourself to a club or gig and getting involved.

Re: I'm new at this
There are no films comparable to Quadrophenia that I'm aware of, there were a couple of recent American ones such as:
Young Birds Fly
and 'American Mod' but I haven't seen these so can't vouch for them.
Probably a better bet would be a film like Up The Junction
I think there might be a list of mod related movies on the modculture site, I can't access that site here in work though to check.

Re: I'm new at this
Welcome newtomod and enjoy. I'd agree that try and get to meet up with a local Scooter club and just get chatting. It's a very healthy and friendly social scene and I'm sure you would be welcomed.
From my point of view I'd say just like what you really like - music wise. Not everybody is the same and we all tend to have our favourite type of mod music and styles we prefer. For example for me I just don't get the northern soul thing whereas Ska will always be my favourite music from the scene.
Anyway enjoy and get involved.
