Southend August 79'
Now this one ! We had been to seen the Teenbeats the night before at the Marquee. Slept in a shed in the car park of the Half Way House on the way to Southend. Was freezing cold and the shed was full of rats !! Lovely !
Southend seafront on the Sunday morning. Just about to leave for a campsite at Leigh on sea. God knows why! We didnt have a tent between us !
Rob 'THE MOD' Wren from Hastings, Southend on his Jet 200 . He was an extra in Quadrophenia !
Johnny Hough
Various
Leigh on sea campsite .The calm before the storm. Anyone who was there knows what I mean.
Into town again !
We had Huggy from the Teenbeats with us on this rally and when Huggy says 'lets go', 'we went !!'
I have to admit I didnt hang around too long after what happened at Leigh.
Oh the good old days.

Re: Southend August 79'
My hubby has an Observer colour suppliment dated 2nd September 1979. On the front cover there is a photo of scooters/riders driving along what looks to be a seafront. We can't recognize the place or the scoots. However, one of the flyscreens on one of them, clearly says SOUTHEND. Another has a sticker on the flyscreen with the face of a tiger showing its fangs on. That's on a dark blue Vespa with red paint trimmings. Next to him is another Vespa with a sticker saying ANGELS. There is a guy on a Vespa behind them. His scooter is Red with fancy sign writing on the front wheel guard. He is wearing a matching red crash lid with huge lettering across the front spelling out VESPA. It's a shame that there are no number plates on the front of scoots so I can't identify them for you any further really. Unless anyone can recognize anything I've mentioned.
Right across the bottom of the photo in big blue printing it states: THE MODS SPEED BACK.
There is a feature inside which mentions some scooter clubs and The Purple Hearts

Re: Southend August 79'
Hi Heather , I have got a copy of that issue somewhere in my attic. I will have a look and see if I can dig it out. I remember the pic of the scoots going along a seafront with the Southend sticker and as the inside issue was about a mod invasion at Rhyll in Wales I wonder if it was taken there?
Three of my mates are in the picture of the 5:15 scooter club taken near Sevenoaks. It was taken leading up to the premier of Quadrophenia I remember. You probably know ,they used alot of the 5:15's in the film

Re: Southend August 79'
Yeah nice one ....but we do know where it was taken ...must admit its a seafront I dont recognise...maybe its just Southend after all? Still searching the attic for my copy...one day I will get it all together so I never lose it.
