The Sound Of Danger
The 2nd Hammondbeat album is almost ready for this world. It's a soundtrack for the radio drama inspired by the film Wilson Chance - http://www.wilsonchance.com
What we set out to do was create a CD that wouldn't lazily recycle the songs in the film (available on previous CD's) so we coerced The Link Quartet, The Men From S.P.E.C.T.R.E., Mike Painter, to write new tunes. The Special Agents and Vic Flick (yes, that Vic Flick) tunes appear here for the first time and are also from the film.
01. "Cleared and Accepted"
02. The Sound of Danger The Link Quartet
03. Chasin' Chance - Mike Painter & The Family Shakers
04. Last Chance - The Men From S.P.E.C.T.R.E.
05. Greased on Delta Street - The Link Quartet
06. A Spy in the Ointment - The Special Agents
07. Krambambuli '67 - The Men From S.P.E.C.T.R.E.
08. Tinker, Tailor, Surfer, Spy (prelude) - The Special Agents
09. Copacabinsky - Vic Flick
10. Tinker, Tailor, Surfer, Spy - The Special Agents
11. "An Agent In Danger"
12. Wilson Chance Theme - The Special Agents
13. "Something About This Music"
14. Munchimoo Boogaloo (tiki torcher mix) - The Yards
15. Chance In Mexico - Vic Flick
16. "I Have A Gun"
17. Soul Hunter - Mike Painter & The Family Shakers
18. Souvenir de Macon - The Link Quartet
19. "I Won't Hold It Against You"
20. Deliquesced by Devonshire - The Link Quartet
21. Kitty's Rendezvous - Mike Painter & The Family Shakers
22. "Skill and Luck"
23. Targets - The Men From S.P.E.C.T.R.E.
24. The Lunar Sea (part 2) - The Special Agents
25. Take A Chance - Vic Flick + Linda Jackson
26. "Spies Have Needs" (deleted scene)
The CD will be available online from http://www.hammondbeat.com and http://www.cdbaby.com in late February.

Re: The Sound Of Danger
Sure it's an advert, but it's also a year of my life in putting this record together, with a bunch of people involved that I hope will get some validation on this planet.
I'm not a mod, I dig the style, but the music is really the thing for me. The sacrifice one makes in doing something like producing an album, is ironically removing himself from the thing he loves. I've had to listen to a lot less music by being dedicated to this one project, and luxury time as a whole is non-existent.
I just hope you understand that bringing notice of this project to your site was about connecting you to some cool band news that you may not have been aware. Once in awhile I get to crawl out from under my rock, catch a breath, have a look around, and then get back to work.
Here's another sales pitch: next Link Quartet album "Italian Playboys International" due in May.

Re: The Sound Of Danger
Well done hammonbeat guy. i sypathise with you on your hard work and sacrifices, not that i have /am producing an album , but am working to get colection portfolio together and set up few projects. this is finacially, socially and emotionally crippiling alot of the times so respect!!I too am not a mod and often feel a fraud on here but, its where i get the best inspiration for my style (not just here of course)and where i too would do my marketing as it has the real deal of mods here (i think)good luck!!

Re: The Sound Of Danger
It's easy to see why spy films have such a following... every bloke who watches them at some point has wanted to be the main character... you know, the one who gets to play with 'out of this world' gadgets, escapes near death situations every 10 minutes without a scratch, defeats 'Mr. Big's' plans to rule the world and always ends up getting the girl... jammy sod.
On top of all this though, he also gets a cool soundtrack genre to be associated with, a genre that has been watered down in recent years no thanks to the commercial fat cats who control what we hear in the movies... thankfully, this album stays true to the game.
You know you're in for a treat as soon as the album kicks in as the atmospheric echoing footsteps of our hero 'Wilson Chance' lead him to be "cleared and accepted" by the computerised C.S.S. Security. This album has a strong movie flavour running throughout with snippets of dialogue giving you a taste of the action.
Fans of the Hammond groove will know much of the artists featured, and the action peaks early with Mike Painter & The Family Shakers tyre burning, high speed 'Chasin' Chance', every movie soundtrack be it conceptual or not needs a car chase tune, I don't need to sell it to you guys. With a label like Hammondbeat, you know what's in store... lots and lots of hammond grooves that just ooze with fun and confidence like Link Quartet's 'Greased on Delta Street' and The Men Form S.P.E.C.T.R.E.'s 'Krambambuli '67, as well as the cheeky 'Munchimoo Boogaloo' by The Yards, I dare you not to smile when you hear this tune.
But this album also has the strong soundtrack vibe as well... 'Tinker, Tailor, Surfer, Spy' has a real Schifrin feel to it, while 'Wilson Chance Theme' does exactly was it says on the tin... it's Bond baby, but with a rocket powered pen shoved up it! And how can you ignore the mighty Vic Flick's contributions? Just when you thought you had this album sussed, the big man steps in and throws caution to the wind with his own style... there's a reason why he's so well regarded and his experience shows.
I could go on and on about all the tunes on here, but I'd still not do it justice. The album is over 70 minutes long and just excellent testament to a label and the bands involved in what they have produced... personal faves are Mike Painters 'Soul Hunter' and the haunting 'The Lunar Sea (part 2) by The Special Agents... the tune feels like it's been lifted from an old library record!
Nuff said!

Re: The Sound Of Danger
Good Shout!..I've got to add a few words of support to Kahlil and Hammondbeat in getting this album together. I'd imagine there's been a lot of blood sweat and tears poured in to this album coupled with sleepless nights in balancing the finances . I take my hat off to anyone who's prepared to stick their neck on the block and run with their passions. FORTUNATELY the end result is more than worthy a match for the passion thats been funnelled in to this project.
At some point in the mid seventies spy music went horribly wrong. The jazz, soul and twangy guitars that were once common were suddenly made redundant as pop bands started getting in on the act.... This album reaches back to the 6Ts for the inspiration in its grooves and reclaims much of the groove which has long been neglected. It works very nicely! There's a good balance of twangy guitar spy anthems, Hammond Soul Groovin, and as Martin says some hectic "Chase" scenes. It's a real pleasure to listen to and hopefully , if the demand is there, we'll perhaps be treated to a sequel.
