THE HIGH NUMBERS

Not sure if this has been spotted previously but I have watched this over and over its brilliant on so many levels...captures the mod movement at its best, the clothes the music and the scene and showcases what would become a legendary band...
Filmed by Kit Lambert and Chris Stamp I can only wonder why the filmakers of Quadrophenia didnt use this as a template for how the gig scenes SHOULD have looked.
The Railway is not too far from where I live and hosted some other great mod acts of the day...if only I had been a teen then... emoticon

Great footage, me and young Glover met Richard Barnes once in Liverpool 8 (Toxteth)lovely fella.

One of the old A41 Eagles SC in Harrow told be that Pete Townsend used to turn up to The Railway gigs on his scooter and, the rest of the band arrived in their van. Don't know if that's just folklore, but it sounds cool to me.

They did. The scene in the club is just like that isn't it?

Re: THE HIGH NUMBERS

Well I thought so. Pretty much.

The Crossection band were the Who, it was a sort of pub type place full of Mods with loads of scooters outside.. and the clothes were pretty much the same... only difference I could see was it was in colour and the Vid you put up is in Black and White... emoticon

Have to disagree there Jeff, Quadrophenia didn't capture the atmosphere of that clip.

Its the same with Ready Steady Go. I can't see how people rave over that show, I couldn't see it in the 80's either when they showed the repeats.

As much as I love Quadrophenia (as you all know)and the scenes have their own appeal but when I watch this footage and other early 60s club scenes it makes me realize how far removed it was from the real deal...just my opinion.
