Re: Invidia Scooters
Jeff, I think that was Mike's point. He was being ironic, I think, intimating that that was what other people were saying - albeit in a very clumsy manner!
Mike, people are just offering advice, it's up to you whether you take it. Personally, I would - there's people on here who really know their stuff.
As I said, your call.

Re: Invidia Scooters
Phew! I picked that one up wrong... thank god for that!!
Sorry Mike... you can get misunderstood easily on the net...
Anyways I don't think that's what people are saying though is it? Aren't they just saying that people they know have bought them and they're duff?

Re: Invidia Scooters
It's like buying anything, you get the know what you're buying, and who locally is a retutable dealer.
Now if a bloke was living in Vietnam, India etc. He could suss out who the retutable dealers are locally, and know he'd get a good scooter.
Chances are that dealer charges far more than these internet people, due to offering a superior product, and doesn't sell to the UK over the net because he's got more than enough work on his plate to bother.

Re: Invidia Scooters
Sorry guys- i was definatly trying to be ironic.
I really appreciate advice and I will listen to it. I guess its frustrating when, as i said before, people making sweeping statements about something.
I have spoken to a number of people (including scooter specialists)and they all pretty much say the same thing about vietmanease Vespas. You wouldnt fork out that sort of money for anything without having a damned good look.
At the same time theres a few good scooter shops selling imported Indian GP200 or 150 lambrettas either restored or waiting to be restored, mostly with new engines etc and a warenty. Has anyone ever bought one of these?

Re: Invidia Scooters
Near me in East London there is a proper Vespa/Piaggio dealer called Scooterden. They only sell all the new Vespas, but they have a very nice vietnamese (sorry don't know the model) one for sale at 3k.. it looks great, and if I was gonna trust a scooter dealer I'd trust them.
Thats a positive comment!

Re: Invidia Scooters
Firms that cobble together these Lambrettas in Vietnam actively recruit people in this country to sell them so it doesnt seem like you are buying off the net.But you might as well be.
Brand new Indian Lambretta engines are rubbish as well.
Talk to Lambretta dealers, like the ones mentioned, and be guided. So there you go,more negative comments about Vietnamese Lambrettas-not probably what you want to hear but honest.
Positive advice? Buy from a reputable dealer that you can take the bike back to if it fcks up.You might pay more money in the first place but it will be worth it.

Re: Invidia Scooters
Indian Lammies are fine, but be a little wary of the engines and the wiring looms which seem to have a lack of quality. What our local dealer does is to take the Indian casing and replaces a lot of the bearings with quality remade pieces available from people like AF Rayspeed or MB Developments.
Anyone in Essex/London wants a quality engine built for an indian/italian frame and body go to JB tuning.
top blokes.

Re: Invidia Scooters
Has anyone yet had any first hand experience of dealing with these guys(invidia) yet, only asking because they are selling a couple on ebay out here(Aus) and the prices seem reasonable?Scooter prices here, especially Lambrettas are pretty high, although some cheaper imported Vespas(as many of you have said, can be dodgy, and obviously aint getting the chance to see em close up).I havent had a scooter since 1985 and getting the urge to get another one,so just asking who to avoid really.Theres a company here in Cairns,Vespaworld i think they are who appear to be a reputable outfit and might be worth checking out. There isnt much in the way of feedback here through forums/scooter clubs etc, cheers,Bill.
