I've got an eye on this company too. They look very good but want to hear some feedback as well before I would invest. They seem the best deal around for Thai/Indian restos.
The best price will not be the best product. Guaranteed.
The last vietnamese scoot I saw, there were bits of coke cans and stuff where there should have been machined steel. If your mate is atop spanner, then ask him...it ain't agood move to buy imported scoots. As Jeff says, nothing but bad stories. And there's many that haven't been told either, mainly because the buyer, who'd been given this advice, went out and bought a piece of rubbish but is then too embarrased to fess up. They spend ages attempting to buy decent replacement parts!

Re: Invidia Scooters
Theres a few valid points made here and also some sweeping statements like avoid Viet/Thai scooters, heard nothing but bad reports and anybody whos got one isnt going to say anything because hes bought a duff one and is to embarressed to say anything etc.
But has anyone actually got one of these scooters themselves who can back these claims and say what there actually like.
I know if you go on ebay and look at Vespas and Lamrettas theres a lot of nice shiney looking scoots with claims of full restorations etc. You hand over your money to some guy in Bangok and hope that a/ the scooter turns up b/ Its in one piece c/ its the colour you ordered d/ its not made up of coke cans etc etc. Thats got to be well risky.
On the other hand there are a number of dealers/ specialists in this country who you could deal with direct. I may be wrong here but i think with Invidia scooters you order your scoot and wait 6 weeks (I did speak to some one who had dealings with them and said he'd waited 3 months!)for it to turn up. So you've got the same problem as above, except that when it does turn up youd like to think you would have some back up if all was not right
I went to see a top guy the other day who has a company he set up with his daughter near Cambridge dealing in Indian Lambrettas and parts.
The difference to Invidia was that his scoots are there in his shop to see. Im not pretending to be a expert on scooters, but i have restored a number of other vehicles, and for the money id say they were spot on. All body panels, electrics, engine etc were new and he also had 2 containers full of parts.
Many of your "local" dealers are only doing the same thing, even if its importing scooters fron Italy or Spain. You certainly couldnt say that all scooters restored in this country are spot on anymore than any restored in the far east are rubbish (lets be honest the Italians have never been renowned for there build quality in the first place).
Dont get me wrong I would love an origanal 1960,s Italian scooter but the prices are just through the roof. Im also not defending every company selling scoots from the far East.
I guess there may be a bit of snobery involved in the scooter world as well.

Re: Invidia Scooters
Someone I know had a scooter from Vietnam and it was a total nightmare.Charlies pretty good at making the scooter look nice-paintwork,chrome etc but when the scooter goes wrong thats when you find that the engine has got bits in it like a crank from a lawn mower or bits from a washing machine as well as the,as previously mentioned, parts fashioned from coke tins.

Re: Invidia Scooters
someone i know had a pizza from a chinease and it was a total nightmre. Chinks pretty good at making the pizza look nice-anchovies, pineapple etc but when you eat the pizza you get bits in it like dog from there neighbors or bits of bamboo shoot. I would hate to generalise but I would warn anyone about buying anything from anywhere other than this great country we live in.

Re: Invidia Scooters
just like to to my two penniesworth in,i ve seen this companies ads but you really do need to be wary,a friend of mine bought,12 months ago,sx 150,from a dealer on the south coast, wont mention their name, against all advice.lovely paintwork, chrome, lights, the full xmas tree in fact, friend pays 5 grand for this,i kid you not.september he phones me up,suprise the thing wont go,i go round to take a look,1st time ive seen the beast with the panals off, what he has is a pile of vietnamise shite, piston and barrel completely shagged, chrome work all rusty, only 147 miles on the clock, for 5 grand, empire classics or all styles(both local to me)are going to give you something very tasty, with some comebacks if any thing goes wrong.in fact all styles had some very nice scooys last week for a lot less than 5 grand,so my friend,be wary, use a reputable company,if all else fails get a vespa,2 and a half grand brand new, good luck

Wow. Racism, Stereotyping, False accusations and misguided nationalism all 3 sentences...
So no point buying a Vespa or Lambretta then? They come from Italy. I suppose the "wops" or "spicks" as you would no doubt refer to them are much different from the "chinks"?
If I didn't buy "anything from anywhere other than this great country we live in" I'd be a pretty miserable bugger. The majority of my clothes come from abroad, my car is Japanese, my computer and the software it uses is American and as regards food I like French, Italian, Indian, Thai, Spanish and yes even the odd Chinese god help me...
I'm sorry Mike but that last post was... actually I'm lost for words.
