Re: Mark Johnson
I don't give a !@#$ tbh! Got tired of all this forum back biting and keyboard bravery one upmanship whatever a long time ago...maybe because I was moderator on here for a few years and spent my time sorting all the crap out including phone calls and messages from known and unknown egos complaining about this or that comment or member!
Now I'm an out there person doing real stuff in the real world so if you want to talk about anything or find out what I'm about without making assumptions about me then by all means do or you can add me on Facebook if you are on there. .. Mick Edwards on there I DJ all around either as Mick Edwards , Mickee Edwards or just plain Mickee ......so that's me if you don't want to say who you are fair enough!

Re: Mark Johnson
oooo, obscene words;funny how i knew that was coming. Look, let's get this straight, there was no back biting,or one upmanship in my post, just the truth. If you cannot see that, then you're either willfully missing the point,or intellectually challenged. Assumptions;only insomuch as i would be obliged to do,that being upon your replies.Without being rude, and please, take that at face value, why would i want to know who you are,or indeed, vice versa? We all 'do' things out in the real world;i do hope being a DJ is not one of your proudest achievements. I detect a slight subtext,of you implying i would say things on here, that i would'nt say in person. If i see you at any of the rallies,or other events,i will introduce myself;i'll even buy the drinks.

Re: Mark Johnson
Ha ha nice one,**** isn't really obscene though is it(!?)...buy the drinks anytime I rarely refuse! You sound like the guy that started this thread ...you're name isn't Rob is it? I must be challenged though as I'm using smilies !
Mate (I hope you don't mind me calling you that but I don't know your name!) the reason I gave you my name and DJ info was so that you could look me up if you were so inclined not so that I could make out I'm something special (yeah special needs!..if you have no interest then fair enough)... DJ'ing is something I like doing and I like playing old vinyl so I am fortunate enough to be asked from time to time to enjoy myself and help other people enjoy themselves!
My proudest moments are tricky as I tend to dismiss stuff soon after doing it and go on to something else.I think I tend to spend my time trying to help others get where they are trying to go more than myself if I'm honest...helped kids and adults in Battersea develope their confidence and taught them to look after themselves physically for several years, quite proud of that and made many friends and will never forget those times I expect.
I suppose the thing that has stuck in my head the longest is when I saved my best friend at school from drowning on a trip to wales ...stuff like that makes me feel good about myself really and my friend was glad if not soaking wet!
Any remarks I have made about why I no longer frequent this place are general and on past experience and not individual or at you really a bit like you referring to "certain people".
I have actually talked to Tony about those times and MJ and know his side of it but that was a private conversation and I think both Tony and Eddie have been involved with plenty of other things they don't always mention...Ed like Tony always seems to talk honestly and straight forwardly about things from the past in my personal experience.
I upset Tony a few years ago whilst DJ'ing together( I was worse for drink) and found he is very black and white when it comes to entertainment/business stuff ...he said he still loved me as a friend but wouldn't work with me again so I suppose in the same way he might not mention something or someone that upset him or gave him grief in past business?
I suppose some people place more importance on somethings than other people and everyone has something from their past they'd like to forget but both Tony and Eddie are on the net and approachable so I would suggest that if you want an honest answer about these things you ask them but don't be surprised if they give a limited reply(and want to know who you are!) as it was a long time ago and they are both doing stuff in the here and now as ever.
Good luck to you and your quest for the truth...it's out there but may not be quite how you see it or others remember it!
Something for you to have fun with there I'm sure but the olive branch is there so to speak and I probably won't be back to read anything! ...Waving or drowning?

Re: Mark Johnson
I think he died fairly recently. A bunch of test pressings and acetates for Unicorn Records came on eBay just a bit ago. I enquired to the seller and he said that the owner had passed and he was selling these items that were left behind or being thrown out. A lot of it was pretty rare one-off stuff like original art so I'm thinking it was him.

On page 5 of this thread someone mentioned that he had died of aids in Turkey. That post was from 2005. That may have been rumour though.

Re: Mark Johnson
Yeah, I think most of that earlier death stuff from AIDs reek of rumour mill fodder. What's the first response someone would say when asked about 'what ever happened to Mark Johnson?'; 'fookin' poof probably died of AIDs'.
I'm not sure it really matters but I'm not really convinced that dude was even gay. An asshole looking for attention and power yes but if he was as gay and lecherous as everyone makes out, he would have outed himself very early on and gotten the public beating (as opposed to more rumour stuff) to show for it.
But the dude doesn't seem like he was even really a Mod, just some dude wanting to be someone (cue Jam song here).

Re: Mark Johnson
All the test pressings etc that were sold on Ebay were apparently rescued from a house clearance when Mark Johnson's wife died - so the seller told me when I bought most of them from him.
Strange world!
I never bought that died of AIDS story - more likely did a runner because of the rumours, and the taxman being after him for his dodgy business practices.

Re: Mark Johnson
I subscribed to the Phoenix List In the early 80s and bought a lot of vinyl and stuff. MJ had my phone number. We were all innocent then and I was a 17 year old kid giving the number out as part of ordering the records. I got a call one day from MJ after I had ordered the Moment LP. He basically said I should come to London to se the band play and offered to put me up in his place. When I said ok and asked for four tickets so I could bring my mate and our girlfriends he back tracked pretty quickly and said there was only really room for one visitor at a time. I have heard the rumours for years and always fell relieved I had avoided the potential of something bad happening. There is a story about MJ in Mick Middles book about Joy Division. Apparently he dabbled with them in some kind of management capacity early on. The band sussed him out a fired him, and dumped his scooter into a fountain in London (Trafalgar Sq?) and left him there.
