!@#$! Do you think my reply might have read a bit arsey? It wasn't meant to at all....

I was meaning that it's great that people are getting back into mod, but I personally would prefer to see more young people getting into it as well.

hey i just wanted say thanks for saying that, it makes me feel more welcomed and more like i might actually be accepted in a certain society...it's nice to know that there are people like you who won't reject new young mods just because they're only getting into it now...i'd like to see more young mods too emoticon

You are very welcome emoticon

Hear-hear!
Welcome all young folk who are rejecting sloppy 'urban' casual culture in favour of something sharper and more refined. That said, I'm curious about what turns a young head in this direction, so perhaps they'd like to answer. Being young is usually about enjoying what's modern and new.
The trouble with using the first revival as a source is that you're starting from a mutation of the original idea, although culture is constantly leaping back and forth from different starting points. Since most Kids like to watch 'live' bands, I suppose it makes sense to latch onto a scene that still provides them. Personally, I take more pleasure from hearing a soul classic in a club than hearing a third-rate band of white boys playing their interpretation of black music. That was bad enough in the 60s.
Since the fashion pages are filled with '60s-style' clothing for girls, I'm still waiting for my first glimpse of any takers walking down the high street. As for the boys, they don't seem to figure. The male equivalent would probably be target t-shirts, white Levis and, er, whatever.
The girls get offered shiny plastic, cheap rip-offs of the mid-60s look.
The Kids could do a lot worse than ask some old farts (ha-ha) about style and music.

I guess I've always felt that i didn't fit into the mainstream culture, and i never liked the music they played on the radio...so for a while, i just dressed really weird because i like to stand out. i enjoy having people stare at me on the street! then, precisely one year and one day ago, i had a self-renaissance when i discovered the who, who eventually got me into mod. i like where i am, psychologically and mod-ally now...yeah, that's how.

Mod lunatic, it's a shame you've got into Mod because you want to be different, stand out and be stared at in the street. This gives the Mod scene a bad name as you should really get into the scene because you love the music, style, transport etc. This is not some silly little phase for you to cut your teeth into once you've got fed up and bored with your Medusa hairstyle and pink dress. I suppose you would get stared at walking down the street in that get-up. However, Mod should be about wearing your threads with pride and doing it...because you want to and because you appreciate style regardless of whether someone is "Staring" at you or not! Wouldn't it be better for people to discreetly take a glance rather than a full on stare!
More flattering I'd say.
