Re: The Jam To Reform ?
I just dont see the point in them reforming. It will be like having a one night stand with an old flame,it seems like a good idea but time has moved on and so have all of us.

To JustJon, I'm sure Ian Page speaks highly of you!
Ok so he's not a slim jim but his voice is still great.

Re: The Jam To Reform ?
I quote

what about 'When your'e young', they were tunes about Youth..
Look at it this way, Ian Page ( Atkind Diet I love that) sings Time For Action..and there is a line in Shake & Shout
2Young and Proud of a brand new sound2..Yeah Maybe 24 years ago,it doesn't cut it does it.I saw The Jam a few Times, leave it where it belongs Paul..in our Fond Memories.

Re: The Jam To Reform ?
I see a lot of new bands, some have gone on to big things and some may yet, some are !@#$ and will never be any good, i go because i like a good night of music and the affair gig i went to the other week was a cracking night of music. They were good. They are good musicians. And i'm sure that Paul et al calling themselves The Jam would be a cracking night out.
So like Mystery i say take it for what it is, some of the best musicians of a period playing some tunes that you will all know. I'd pay to see that...non ?
You can still have your memories.

Re: The Jam To Reform ?
Maybe im making too much of this, maybe its because i was around at the time, but Ian Page was always singing about being sharp and cool and life in soho etc,and although i thought Secret affair were great then and now,two things you cant accuse Page of is being sharp and cool, its the same with The Jam,they sung about social injustice, the class system, youth etc they really touched a chord with the working class youth, they were more than songs, they were expressing what many of us were feeling, and opened the eyes of many. The England they sung of hardly exsisis any more,we, their audience have changed too.
Perhaps if they reformed and wrote some new material? but whats the point in that,Paul Weller was the Jam when it came to song writing.
The thing is,when you write songs that are as powerful, evocative and anthemic statements such of the kind that Weller and Page wrote, they become part of your lives history, they really mean something, and as much as i loved seeing Weller doing "in the crowd" and "butterfly collector" recently, it can never be the same.
But a complete contradiction is,WHY am i still playing and enjoying those tunes so much, how can i love listening to the jam but not want them to reform?

Re: The Jam To Reform ?
I'm definately on the side of those wishing for a one off gig or something similar.
Although I understand about wanting to keep good memories of times past, I also believe that it would be a fantasic night out.
Bank Holiday in Hasting, myself and Mystery had a fantastic time dancing around and doing the 'Foxton jump' to a set of Jam records played by modra.....and that for me bought back sooooo many good memories.
How good would that be while The Jam were playing live????
Actually dont know if I would jump around too much, I would probably be standing there in awe, soaking in the atmosphere and music of one of THE most influential groups of my time.
Cant see it happening......but I hope to God that it does!!

Re: The Jam To Reform ?
Justjon, ok so you have your memories...but things never stay the same surely?! I think you're making too much of it really - after all The Affair gig was a great nite out for those of us that went. I couldn't give a toss what Ian Page looks like...I go to gigs purely for the music and voice content NOT FOR AESTHETIC REASONS! If I want to get all pedantic about image then I pick up my Vogue or go to a fashion show. Of course, I'm well aware that fashion/Image and music are very closely linked and rub off on each other
but if you let this rule your head 100% then you would probably miss out on some cracking gigs!

Re: The Jam To Reform ?
Kitty,i think you're missing my point,a lot of The Jams songs are'nt relevent anymore, how do feel when you see The Who singing my generation?
"cos we've all grown up and got our own lives and values that we had once upon a time.....
I think The Jam peroid in Wellers life was too important to spoil it all with a comeback. To those who just think the jam played good songs, fine, but to many it was much more than that,a bit like Jimmy and steph,it meant a lot to him but to her it was just a shag!

Re: The Jam To Reform ?
JustJon, but surely you could say that a lot of music is not "Relevant" to todays issues?! I've seen old artists in concert who sing old favourites talking about anything from "Working on railroads" to war issues....but that doesn't stop me from digging the tunes!
Music is after all supposed to be fun and not for us to deep analyise how old and relevant the tunes are!
