Sherrys V AllThingsMilitary
Right, the burning question ..
I'm sortin out my next Parka this weekend at some point and am torn between ordering one from ATM.co.uk or goin up to Sherrys and getting one. At the moment, I'm more tempted to head up to Oxford/Carnaby Street as that way I can grab a few more Lonsdale shirts as well.
Also, on ATM, the olive green US Parka is exactly the one I want, but is listed as a 'good copy'.
I ideally want the real thing, so Sherrys has gotta be the best bet. Or do you reckon they're copies as well ?

Re: Sherrys V AllThingsMilitary
Go to Camden Market. They sell surplus ones for about 35.
Go and have a look at Sherrys and Merc always worth a trip up the West End.

Re: Sherrys V AllThingsMilitary
As always, it's totally up to you buddy, but in my opinion, try and get a genuine US Army issue, fishtail parka with the US army logo on the front. To me (being very fussy!), it's like buying Levis without the tag Because it *is* all in the detail isn't it?
Try calling the different supplers first and asking them if it's genuine US army issue M65, or M51 (I think that's the code for the earlier ones), and ask them if they have any with the U.S.ARMY tag on.
Sherrys have some nice John Smedley tops in at the moment, but they're very expensive - 80-90. (I got a couple of Smedleys at TK Max recently for 20 each.) They also sometimes have real Fred Perry monkey (scooter) jackets.
Merc's sta-press trousers are alright (slim fitting, straight leg with front pockets), also their bowling shoes, and sometimes they have some great looking cycling tops and monkey jackets in too. Tip - try to get Merc stuff without the large Merc logos on though.

Re: Sherrys V AllThingsMilitary
I think I'll just trot along to Sherrys actually and check out that place DelBoy was on about, if I can find the place. Ordering online for such an item could be a bit dodgy considering their price, or possible size and styling problems etc. Nothing like 'real' shoppin anyway.

Re: Sherrys V AllThingsMilitary
Cheap and nasty in every way apart from the prices. You can get proper kit elsewhere for the same price or less...

Re: Sherrys V AllThingsMilitary
It's a case of searching, exploring and hunting it down. That for me is the thrill of it all, stumbling across a sale in Savile row or something like that. Coming out with something no one else has, reeking of quality... of course if you just wanna walk into a shop and buy instant Mod then the Merc or Sherry's are perfect. You don't get quality or even what you pay for but you do get it NOW. Or you can go to a tailor. My tailor's prices are extremely reasonable but again you have to WAIT. For me if the choice is to be patient and possibly spend a couple of quid more to get EXACTLY what I want, then I will do it. I am a Mod and I want the best...
I sometimes spend a whole day exploring the less common parts of the West End, and wherever I go I always have one eye cocked for a sleek jacket or shirt in a shop window...
