MysteryMod - You have to listen to "I can only give you everything" by MC5 - it is the bollox - the intro guitar is
out of this world and very Garagey and certainly not Rock and Roll! Don't dismiss a band fully until you've heard all of their playlists 'cos sometimes you find nuggets!
Nothing against anyone that likes them but I've heard enough of their stuff to make my decision, I don't like what I've seen and heard and therefore don't want to delve any further - fair enough?

Re: Non-mod 60's music?
I like some MC5. "Kick Out The Jams" is a great high energy song that's ahead of it's time. My impression of them is that they came out of the late sixties and hippie music dominating the mainstream charts. You had The Grateful Dead, The Doors, etc. and the MC5 were this band that would come out rockin' full force with no hippie connotation.
For non-mod 60s music, I also enjoy Arthur Lee's Love, Velvet Underground, Beatles (of course), The Stones, Kinks (arguably mod?!?), The Pretty Things, Syd Barrett's Pink Floyd, The Smoke, ? & The Mysterians, 13th Floor Elevators, Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Music Machine, The Stooges, adn many more I can't think of right now.

Out of interest, Batrigger, what is your opinion of the count 5 and did you ever see them live? I love Psychotic reaction! What a song!
Sorry Ace,I forgot about this post, thus the
late reply. No,Ace I never saw the Count Five
live. They were a San Jose west coast band and I lived many miles eastward. If I recall
they were the band that turned down a million dollar tour(very big money back then) in order to return to school so they
probably were not seen all that much outside
of Cali...TV maybe???
Well of course I liked the song when it came out,in fact I played it many times in
the band I was in...it was a good party smash up tune.Howevever being an old geezer
I have played it and listened to it so many times that I am not much moved by it.But of
course my son digs it and so it goes on.
To be truthful the "garage" bands that I really liked even back then were those very heavily influenced by blues and soul...early
pre-hippy Sir Douglas Quintet,the Rationals,
Music Explosion and the like.

Re: Non-mod 60's music?
Talking about garage, what do you make of this so-called garage revival. In my eyes, its just media hype and a lot of it isnt real garage at any rate. I like the White stripes and a few others but not much else.
What do you think, Bat?
