Re: Mod: A Very British Phenomenon
How on earth can a casual be described as Mod?!....wedged haircuts and flicked fringes and tons of gold jewellary is not my idea of Mod. Sure, Casuals liked soul and I luv soul but not quite the same thing is it now! So Weller went a bit "casual soul" but he managed to pull it off in a cool way and didn't go totally down the casual route. :verycool:

I don't know, there's some bloody awful pictures of him from that era. He looked a bit dodgy? Or is that just how he looked to me?
I thought the book very interesting but the 79' onwards section could have benn a bit more diverse in it's mentioning of bands. It just seemed to mainly focus on The Chords and The Purple Hearts.

Well, he certainly had a very dodgy flickhead haircut for a while didn't he?! Urgh

Re: Mod: A Very British Phenomenon
I didnt mean Casuals were Mods in suits etc, otherwise they would have been Mods! I meant a more MODERN version updated to suit the times they were living in, same as Skins in 1969....

Re: Mod: A Very British Phenomenon
Good journalism means talking about everything on the subject you are professing to be an expert on despite personal opinion.Thats why Terry Rawlings book sucks he was not objective enough and basically wrote one viewpoint. His own.He takes nepotism to the enth degree with his obvious close bond with the chords. (Hence the ridiculous lack of info on Secret Affair and Makin time to name a few.Anyone reading this would have believed that only The Chords and The purple Hearts were in existence.A travesty.
As I said before the man is a master of airbrushing...but for those of us that were there-we know who the bands were that mattered-and it wasnt JUST The Chords mate.
As regards the inference that the "casual" movement was a follow on from mod, well, its laughable innit?
What a joker.
