OOOPS,,I be sure not to wear my Burberry shirt next time i see you DRS!

Re: Scootering - A Way Of Life?
well they've got till next August to convince me to renew my subscription 'cos at the moment it's just not worth it. If you are writing a note Mini, I would like to see more techie stuff and less of the lowest common denominator trite. Quote that too - lol

Re: Scootering - A Way Of Life?
This is probably irrelevent but what the f*ck:
I got interested the Mod scene late 79 at the grand old age of 10 & 3/4's due to older kids down my street riding scooters that were all decked out with lights & mirrors.
They formed 'The Wansbeck Scooter Club'.
One of them (Keith) had a garage next to where me & my mates hung around (doing pre-pubescent stuff)he used to spend every weekend (that there wasn't a rally)fixing/tuning/modifying his or one of his mates scooters(he also had a dam fit modette girlfriend).
I ended up spending more time talking to him about the Mod scene/music/clothes/scooters than swinging on tarza's & lighting fires.
"The Birth of a new Mod"
Due to my constant appearances & questions the whole scooter club came to know me & affectionately called me 'The Bairn'& made me an honoury member.
By 1985 I had my 1st Vespa(50 special all decked out) & 1986 I had a PX125EFL (decked out)I was now a full member. But the club was now all scooter boys & called 'The Wansbeck Beer Pigs scooter club'.'The Bairn' was no more & the ridicule started with me & others of my age who were still into the 'Mod Thing'.So we thought f*ck them & left the club & started our own.
Last year there was a Scooter club re-union so I thought what the hell I'll go & see what has happened to everyone.
Guess what?
I'm the only one still riding a scooter.
(Apart from Doddsa but he rides a GT200 Twist & Go does that count?).
They have all swopped their love of scooters for 'Big Bikes' or 'Cars' & couldn't believe I was still riding around on a Lammy.
They were mods, they were scooter boys, scootering WAS their way of life, but where are they now????????
There is no such this as natural progression
either you is or you ain't.

Re: Scootering - A Way Of Life?
I'll echo Simpa's comments
I was in a Fife scooter club and initially they were all mods and went on rallies to Dunbar and Morecambe. Then they became all scooter boys and went on rallies as far away as err....Dunbar and Morecambe except this time in scruffy clothes and mostly in the back of a van.
One even had they cheek to say to me scooters were their way of life now not all this mod sh*t..Guess what they all turned out to have the lifespan of a dragon fly. I'm also the only one still on a scoot.
It may be hackneyed to say this but this is a way of life not a fashion.

Re: Scootering - A Way Of Life?
This topic has really caught my interest!
I am new to this forum, as you will be aware, but some of you may know me from the SA website or other forums.
I have been a mod since the tender age of 13 back in 1979 (where have all the years gone) and I couldn't agree more to what Simpa and many others of you have had to say.
Scooterist's, scooterboys/girls or whatever they like to be called have forgotten the roots of the scene! THE 60's & MODS introduced the scooter to this country and put this means of transport on the map!
I would go as far to say that a large percentage of these people were actually mods in the first place! To a certain degree at least.
I have many scooter friends who aren't mods and the occasional banter is often brought to a halt when I mention that I remember when they were into the MOD scene!
Mod is a way of life for us like minded soul's and if I was being honest it dosen't bother me to attend scooter rallies, although I would prefer Mod events anytime.
Being a northerner, there are fewer events up here and the cost of travelling south where the scene is much healthier can become expensive, so scooter rallies are the alternative. I am what I am and I'm proud of our scene, the music, the clothes - The way we decorate our scooters!
Those who choose to dislike our way of life have nothing better to do and are just sad people really or do I detect a hint of jealousy at the way we enjoy ourselves?
