Re: Clubs in the 80s.London
The Trafalgar.
I walked into the pub (which is in the middle of the Shepherds Bush shopping precinct). It was empty. After a bit of a conversation with the guvner(Roy) I asked him him if he put any bands on,"No one comes in here since the stabbing!"he said.He explained that the pub used to be called"Dannys Bar" and that there was a fatefull stabbing.I told him that I managed a band (Speedball) and this was just the sort of place I was looking for (Sorry,am I keeping you up?)Anyway.he agreed that I could have the pub the following Tuesday.I broke my neck advertising it and when Tuesday came around it was packed,All Roy wanted out of it was a fiver."So long as I sell beer amd theres no fighting I don't give a F+++".
Because it went well he gave me Saturdays'Fridays Thursdayse etc etc Built it up to be a venue. The bands I put on there:Speedball/Lomg Tall Shorty?Mods/Spiders/Hidden Charms/Eddy Steady Go/The Pinks/Apocalypse etc
anyway he said to me one day"You can't have next Friday Rog.I told him that I had it all sorted out."Sorry".He did it once more and I threw the teddy,"F+ck you" etc etc.Anway, about a fortnight later Im looking through NME and theres a big ad "The gig on the Green" .I was gutted! It was a venue I set up from sh+t!A mate of mine said to me "what were you paying him?"I said "A fiver a night"He laughed. Then the penny dropped!I thought he was happy!(I didnt even consider that someone would price me out, whatever)Sorry!Thats wqhat I can tell you about the Trafalgar!
