Bootlaces

I know this isn't strictly Mod but....

I was going to ask this over on MC but was too scared.

Can anyone tell me the relevance of coloured laces in DM boots.

I remember as a kid that certain colours showed an affiliation with certain rigfht wing groups.

Can anyone enlighten me as to which colour was which group.

Blimey, i thought that was just a local urban myth where i lived! And thats the first time i heard it mentioned in 30 years!
I sort of remember the colours red, yellow and white but which 'movement' they represented i dont know.
Are you worried that by wearing yellow boot laces you might offend?

In Dublin anyway the boneheads wore the white laces, I heard the red were anti-mod and the yellow were worn by skins into Trojan etc. Could be mistaken though.

I was under the impression here in England anyway that White laces were British Movement and Yellow were APL. Don't know how true this was.

This colour means this...this colour means that... it may of in some parts of the country but it's all a load of nonsense really, bit like calling someone Gay because they've a an earring in the wrong ear etc'...it's the sort of stuff 13 year olds come out with, ya' know, trying to be hard and all that.

Most people put coloured laces in their boots because they thought it looked good, and thats it. To most people it ment nothing. I only wear Dr Martens when i'm on the Scooter riding a fair distance, very cold or throwing it down wit rain/snow, the rest of the time it's Adidas Trainers or Clarks Desert Boots. The ones i have at the moment are Cherry Red 10 holes with Yellow laces and i've had them for years. Before hand it was Black 10 holes with White or Red laces.

As for it meaning anything Racist or Right Wing...i am one of the most Anti-Racist people you can meet. Put it this way, no one i know who is Black or Asian has ever taken offence to me wearing D.M.s [or Air Wair as we call them in Liverpool] or the laces that are in them. More like "I like ya' boots, is that your Scooter?, i'd love one of them..." etc', etc'...

Also...a lot of Punks, Students, Indie Kids etc' wear coloured laces in D.M.s.

I was about 13 too ,in Essex, and agreed its the sort of thing you talk about at that age and in 'those days'. Especially when there was a lot of badge wearing when no one rally understood the consequences.
For me this question was about one of those things that use to happen in the late 70s/early 80s. And some are a bit taken aback by it now.....a bit like only having 3 channels on the telly emoticon

just caught this thread,i have been wearing a pair of dm`s for the last couple of years when on a rideout,a couple of weeks ago a mate who i`ve known for over 30 years who grew up in the same part of west london as i did, spotted the boots with yellow laces and said he didnt realise i was bnp!i`m not by the way, when i asked him to explain he reckons that it was always this way, certainly down at stamford bridge,i dont recall ever hearing this before but i will bow to superior knowledge,i will keep the yellow laces as i think they look ok!and bollox to what anyone thinks
