Re: Britpop / Mod Revival 92 - 98
There was an Irish band called Revelino who had a couple of albums out around 96/97. I only ever seen them once on a local music programme playing a song called 'Radio Speaks', which was excellent.
I remember thinking that the singer looked quite Mod, an impression only re-enforced by the fact he was playing a Rickenbacker.
One of their tunes 'Step On High' was a favourite of the late, great John Peel's apparently!

Re: Britpop / Mod Revival 92 - 98
Brilliant idea for a newbie site Jay I think you could go back as early as 88/89
With that in mind i'd like to add the following to the already growing list of bands worthy of note:-
Family Go-town, The Mock Turtles, Catch 22, Studio 68, The Nuthins, The Buzz, The Pocket Devils, Prime Movers......
There were literally hundreds of good bands around just before and during the brit pop era, some made it loads didn't.
Any help you need please give me a shout.
Kev.

You are right Kev. The only thing is it may drift into the Baggy Madchester if I go back too far and that was a completely different movement all together.

I guess yer right Jay, shame though coz there were plenty of bands from that era that had that 60's/79 power pop feel to em a la Charlatans an Ride, shoegazers maybe but the sound man...... outstanding.

I reckon you wouldn't be able to get away with a Britpop site without referencing Stone Roses/Charlatans/Inspiral Carpets etc. They were, after all, the catalyst for all that 60s/Mod influenced pop vibe that started to emerge. Taking it a little further back, The Prisoners would have to be mentioned. The Charlatans certainly cited them as an influence.

I used to go to see them on an almost weekly basis in the mid 90s, usually in Whelans, Dublin.
Their first two albums are excellent, not mod but very 60s influenced. The last time I saw them was in Galway when their 3rd album came out in the early noughties, that was a different animal, very disappointing, they seemed to disappear after that.
I can't seem to find anything by them on youtube though I do remember an offical video for Happiness is Mine.

After some thinking at the weekend about this site I have decided that it is impossible to miss the Baggy era of things.
I alos promise that this is in no way connected to the new 90's Revival book that's due to be released soon.

Hi Bik, I don't have their 3rd album, maybe give it a miss now if I come across it. I'd certainly recommend their first two albums though, especially 'Broadcaster', which along with 'Expecting To Fly' by The Bluetones was rarely off my car stereo at the time.

Heard about the book last night, looking forward to reading it - told I'm in a few pics from 1990. Oh to be 16 again.
There's a book launch for this in a couple of weeks

Re: Britpop / Mod Revival 92 - 98
One band I can't believe I've forgotten to mention were The Revs from Twickenham, a mighty fine 3 piece who appeared around 1989 and gigged constantly for the next few years and who were a darn sight better than most of the bands that followed them and got break on the back of Britpop. And hoping to have some news of a one off reunion gig in April very soon.......
