Re: weller is a
I hear ya.
What pissed me off was that, although he was reckoned to be a mod way before the revival and has often been credited with being the major force behind the revival, during the last couple of Jam years he was denouncing being a mod then he goes on Jonathan Ross show and says he always was a mod????? I'm just not convinced that he wasn't cashing in on the then resurgance of mod popularity. To be honest, I can't blame if he was, but it still doesn't taste right.
Don't get me wrong here, how can I hate a guy who was my gateway to it all? He wrote some cracking tunes, as did Foxton, and had immaculate style. As for The Style Council, well I do like some of their tunes (the more moddy ones - surprise suprise) but equally a lot of it was crap. Obviously just the opinion of one slightly bitter mod who's probably old enough to know better.

Re: weller is a
It would make sense if Weller is a Chelsea fan - he's got taste.
I'm not as fanatical about The Jam as most of you lot but whenever I hear one of their singles on the radio they sound great. I saw them a few times back in ye olde days of Punk, of course.
As for splitting up, it's the best thing anyone could do and shows great courage and determination to act on instinct/feeling. Besides, if The Jam were still around today, having made their twentieth album and gradually declined in artistic stature, some of you probably wouldn't idolise them as much as you do now.
Looking at Weller today you can see he's still got style.
As for being 'miserable', or 'dour', who the hell made the rule that he has to be Mr Happy all the time?

Re: weller is a
I would have thought Weller was a Woking FC fan?
Any West Ham United mods out there?
Not sure if they followed a club or not but from their East End roots my guess would be that Marriot & Lane would have been Hammers fans!
Their was once a pub in East Ham that held regular Small Faces events and stuff - special guests and tribute bands etc. Not sure if they still do it now though?
Anyway, Up the Hammers!!

Ah a fellow sufferer, I'm mean Hammer.
Jon, West Ham were voted the most Mod football team on Modculture recently. Nuff said
The pub you are talking about is probably The Ruskin Arms in East Ham (come to think of though it might actually fall under Manor Park, I'll have to check me map) which is the venue for the annual Small Faces convention which John Hellier runs.
Come On You Irons
