mick talbot and the merton parkas

bumped into mick last night and couldnt resist asking if a reunion of the merton parkas was on the cards for the 30th anniversary of the mod revival.

he took it quite well but said that it was highly unlikely, not least because one of the original members has since died and it wouldnt feel right.

he did however enthuse about his Bureau reunion which is in full swing. they have made a new album and are touring to promote it. A brilliant band that i absolutely loved at the time. Saw them at the borderline a couple of years ago and archie was still bang on it.

try and get along to support one of the unsung heroes of the mod scene. merton mick.

I did hear the sad news about former Merton Parkas bassist Neil Hurrell a few years back .The Merton Parkas are one of the revival bands I never thought would reform anyway.

In regards another Mods Mayday 79 band.
I am currently trying to get back in touch with Bryn Gregory the lead singer from Beggar to see if there are any possiblities of them doing anything. I think he is still living local to me.

Ed didn't you know that a few of us off here went to see The Bureau the other week at the Jazz Cafe. I only saw them once before a few years ago at The Borderline. I quite enjoyed the gig myself although most said the Borderline one was better.

There's some photo's on my MySpace albums if you fancy a butchers.

Did you ever get hold of a copy of ES 1 Ed ???

I ask because an old mate of mine from Bournemouth is getting rid of all his old fanzines an memorabilia to me when i next go down to Dorset, i know for a fact he's got a few early issues, the one with the colour front page springs to mind ( iss 6 ??? ) i'll see what else he's got, if there are any doubles to what i've got i'll pop em up for sale on here first.

Kev.

It is a pity that Merton Parkes will not reform even using another bassit but I fully understand why and respect Mick's decision not to.
