The Darkness
If you haven't already heard of these, what planet have you been on ?! The album, 'Permission to Land' is absolute class and they absolutely stormed Reading with their refreshing style.
Quite a few of the tracks remind me of the Who's stuff, I reckon most on here will rate them.

Re: The Darkness
Sorry mate, but they do me nut in.:shootme:
I think the only way they get away with it, is because its all a bit tongue in cheek. As far as their music skills go, they are sound, but not my bag. I saw em minglin at the bar fly about a year ago just before they went balistic, and they wear all the feather bowers and that, but its all done very, look how bad this is. If that makes any sense. Mind you it works wonders with the LLAAADIIES. Now where do i get me bower from ?

Re: The Darkness
The Darkness are the best new band around!
Not sure they remind me to much of The Who though............ I'd like to think of them as quite far away from them if you don't mind! (pictures of Lily, pass me a bucket!!!!!)
I do agree that they are quite cheeky, BUT that is part of the appeal- they don't really seem to take themselves too seriously- which is a cool thing thesedays.
Rooocccccckkkkkkkkkkkkk on? perhaps!!!!!!??????

Re: The Darkness
Spandex rockers supreme. Remind me more of glam than 70's heavy metal. I love em, a good laugh. Proper smock rock Alice Cooper style. If they actually take themselves seriously though, that would be the height of Spinal Tap surrealism.

Re: The Darkness
A novelty glam band is all they are to me I'm afraid. They make me smile when I see em, but hearing the music on the radio without the visual entertainment makes me cringe. I'll be sticking to Tenacious D fer me laugh out loud rock ta very much - anyone else heard em? Tribute, Wonderboy, F*ck Her Gently??

Re: The Darkness
I hate to admit it but the album Permission To Land is great. Not usually me cup of tea, but they just make me smile. Can't see the cock rock connection meself, It just seems like decent glam rock to me.
I'm going to see them live at Keele uni in October and I betcha i'm the only mod there. Should be interesting!

Re: The Darkness
Tenaciuos D are fantastic- "this is not the greatest song in the world....this is just a tribute"
I love the video to that, have you seen it? Dave Grohl (?) from the Foo Fighters is the Devil.....an impressive performance!
And yes, the Darkness are amusing.....am hoping to dance like a headless chicken to them tonight. Cool!

Re: The Darkness
Dave Grohl plays on most of the tracks on the album too. The bits between the songs are laugh out loud hilarious. Wonderboy is me favourite track.
"Here comes Young Nasty Man with powers comparible to Wonderboy,
What powers you ask?
How about the power of flight? - thats levitation homes,
Or how about the power to kill a yak from 200 yards?
With MIND BULLETS - thats telekinesis Kyle...."
I suppose yer have to be there, high above the mucky muck.
It makes me laugh anyway, I'll get me coat......
PS Look at us discussing RAWK on a mod forum. I'll get me other coat..............

Re: The Darkness
Tenacious D, awesome. Did anyone see them on Johnathon Ross months ago, or were you all busy having lives?
