Re: hey check out this "articulo"
I recognized most of this as a mish mash of quotes and pieces from various publications.I dont think this is a recent statement but the piece about Ian Page is from weller and sadly appears to be his opinion today.25 years on and still bitter and twisted.Actually for the record the real reasons for wellers hatred for Ian is more political then the mod story would have you believe.New Hearts were never a punk band but a power pop band in the years before mod reawoke from its brief sleep.Paul weller criticising Ian for being a punk is a bit of a farce really when you consider the Jams early supporters were actually punks and used to spit at them on stage! As for new hearts they were wearing boating blazers in 1978 as you may have seen in promotional photos-and already clearly showed their affiliation for the mod style. The Glory Boys were a pseudoynm for mod culture an evolution from the 60s mod look.Thats what Ian meant when he said they werent mod-but they were adopted by mods just as much as other non mod bands had become (The Kinks and Tamla Motown for example)
Oh well

I'm sure you're right that Wellers opinion on a lot of the revival bands hasn't changed, but I seriously doubt he wastes too much energy hating Ian Page now. At the end of the day, reagrdless of if you like his current music or not (and I definitely don't) he's a hugely successful and respected recording artist, where as Pagey is in The Affair.

Re: hey check out this "articulo"
What a load of crap, thats 20 minutes of my life i won't get back, reading one persons attempt at a "interview" with Weller, i to recognise snippets from a couple of sources, stuff that any muppet with no life could sit down and string togetther, and it kinda dates it when he mentions the bands on top of the pops, Adam ant, Spandau etc etc and all that political bollox, about the same time as red wedge, which i thought was a new sandwich from waitrose.
--- Its a teenage dream, a hackneyed theme, a time stained story, a bid for glory,
but if these dreams aren't really new, tell me why they never came true.

Re: hey check out this "articulo"
Paul Weller was just a sulky twat. He didn't like Ian Page because John Weller managed the New Hearts for a while. He did nothing for them and they walked. Cue Paul Weller's 25 year sulk. And don't kid yourself if you think he doesn't hate them still.
Simple. Paul Weller hated Secret Affair because he felt they 'wronged' his dad. Sometimes you have to struggle to remember that that he's simply a builders son from Woking - er, oh no you don't!
And as for The Jam? Well, who really cares!

Yep, builder's son! I often wonder what some of these
musos would have been doing for a living if they hadn't
"Made it"! Some of them come over as a bit thick and
un-educated! (Ooh, I await the backlash!).

Re: hey check out this "articulo"
By the way, Alex was right. As several people seemed to think it was a mish mash of quotes, for those of you unfamiliar with it - and I thought everyone knew about this pompous essay by Weller - the article was taken from the book 'Cool Cats - 25 Years Of Rock'n'Roll Style', edited by music journalist (and totally twat) Tony Stewart. It was published in 1981 by Eel Pie.
Each chapter in the book is written by someone different - and the other contributors include Ian Dury (the 50s) and Paul Du Noyer (the 70s). Weller's chapter went under the heading 'The Total Look' and was supposed to be about the 60s.
