No wonder it was the northern scooter clubs who had to provide the extras for Quadrophenia.

Really?, no one at all was listening to the original Quad album in the North?

Someone should have told the Pudsey Quadrophenia, Kingston Sc and the Carlton Unicorns?

RTB, don't forget the Dorset lads, the Modrapheniacs and the Poole Lowriders. There were also some lads from Kent, Maidstone maybe

Nice one Stu.(I've got that Kingston Scooter Club patch as well although badly faded).
From memory after visiting Scarborough in 1980 and 81 and Gt Yarmouth etc etc a lot of the Northern Scooter clubs were into Rock music in a big [sign in to see URL] Stranglers were a firm favourite and a lot of them would wear Stranglers patches on their jackets/jeans etc even going so far as to name their scooters after various tracks.

Re: Original Quadrophenia Album.

Long time since this thread was started but yeah, that guy, Chad... I used to live two doors down from him, in Fulham, until 2005.

Crikey, what a blast from the past.

He was ancient then, and must be more ancient now, a little old man, I guess he must be close to 60 if he's still alive. He has a degenerative lung disease, mebbe emphysema?

I recall him having a birthday, maybe his 52nd birthday or something, and I said to my boyfriend, "Doubt if he'll see 53 at this rate" ... they used to all sit round my house smoking and drinking till ridiculous o'clock in the morning.

Prolly got a picture from that era, somewhere, except it might have been destroyed: Hammersmith and Fulham Council "accidentally" destroyed all our belongings from their storage depot.

Chad used to cough all the time and spit in my wastepaper baskets when he came to visit ... ugh!!! So I put a special wastepaper basket beside the chair he used to sit in and made my boyfriend empty it out after he was gone (!!) Ugh ugh ugh emoticon

Last time I saw him, he was minding my dog for me, cos we were being evicted for subletting - but he wanted the dog gone, too expensive to feed, or it pissed in his lounge or something ... so I went to get the dog.

They had run out of coffee - he always had a house full of what seemed (to me, at least) to be scrounging crackheads - and everyone was always skint. So I was feeling generous and went to buy some coffee, just a regular jar of coffee, but the old bastard had the gall to complain that I had only bought Nescafe and not Gold Blend, he was giving it large and throwing a strop "But I always drink Gold Blend."

I just walked out thinking "Well nobody told me, so when I'm payin for it, you'll drink plain old Nescafe, you ungrateful old so and so!" ... LOL

Not seen the old bastard since. Might pop round and see if he's still alive. I'd like to see his Mrs. She were a sweet old thing.

Not such a great ending, apparently.

I spoke to my ex, having told him about this post, and he said he found out last week that both Terry and his wife had since died, but he didn't know much else.

Bless. They were a funny old couple. RIP, I guess.

Tragic story. I guess his big lucky break in life was to be picked out of the blue by Townshend in a bar to be the face of Jimmy for the album photo shoot. Having been a big fan of this album for 30 years and looking at its cover and booklet for the same amount of time and always wondering who "Chad" was it's a bit of a downer to hear he ended up this way. Thanks for posting though. It's always good to know the truth.

Great story, sounds a bit like how Pete Meaden ended up though I don't think he even made 40...

I was Chad's 1st wife only found out yesterday he had died, been a bit sad all day even though we have had no contact for years, we had a daughter together and he was my first love we lived near each other when we first met, he in Thessaly Road and me in Tidbury House, we had our wedding reception on the Patmore Estate, some good memories along with some bad but he will always hold a little part of my heart as he is my daughter's dad, [sign in to see URL] Chad xx

Bumping this one mainly because I've only just read it but because I love the quadrophenia album. Shame to hear of 'Chad's' passing.
But to get on topic, why would anyone claim that you 'can't like The Who' or that quadrophenia was a 'rock' album and that they were 'rockers' then? That's crazy talk.
Look at it like this; Mod is supposed to be modern, which means moving and looking foward and staying relevant. Technically, The Who were moving forward, evolving from each album, and so if that isn't technically, a mod move, what is? Practically, I can understand that to many, Mod music(in relation to The Who) is the first couple of albums and that's it. But even at that, if I like something then that's good enough for me. Most of what I like comes from a Blues and Soul background(including almost everything The Who did) and so that makes sense to me. The Who still connect with Mods, Mod symbology and Mod Culture, even today and we should be happy and thankful for that in my opinion.
